The SuperSmart team welcomed interested parties at its booth at the world-leading trade show for the refrigeration, air-conditioning and heating industry in Nuremberg, Germany, from 11-13 October. The 1st Labelling Board Assembly kick-started work to determine criteria for refrigeration equipment and refrigerants under a new EU Ecolabel for food retail stores.
For three days the SuperSmart team informed food retailers, manufacturers and component suppliers about progress made under the EU-funded project and first publicly available reports to be published soon. Part of project partner’s shecco’s booth in Hall 7 - booth 616, SuperSmart partners distributed general information flyers and collected interest for organising public and tailor-made training sessions.
Armin Hafner from NTNU summarised the main achievements under SuperSmart so far, upcoming milestones and how to get involved during a 20 minute presentation part of the Chillventa Specialist Forum on 11 October.
1st Labelling Board Assembly starts work on Ecolabel criteria for HVAC&R systems and refrigerants use
The 3rd public workshop, organised in parallel to Chillventa, informed interested parties about results from a European-wide survey on non-technological barriers to the uptake of more efficient supermarkets, and provided an overview of progress made for developing training material on topics such as how to build and maintain an energy-efficient supermarket and refurbish an existing one, choose computational tools for supermarket planning, and choose best-available technology. All training reports will soon be available in the “Download” section for free access.
The subsequent 1st Labelling Board Assembly was the starting point for a 2 years process to develop a catalogue of criteria for a future holistic EU Ecolabel for Food Retail Stores. During the workshop participants provided input to the development of such criteria especially for requirements regarding refrigerants and HVAC&R technology used.
If you are interested in joining the effort and thereby influencing the effectiveness of the EU Ecolabel, you are invited to express your interest by sending a message to firstname.lastname@example.org.
SuperSmart is an EU project to speed up the uptake of more energy-efficient refrigeration, heating and cooling solutions for Europe’s food retail sector by reducing its energy use, lowering its environmental footprint, and increasing its economic benefits.
